I was living the good life. Nothing could stop us, right? I wish.....
Everything seemed normal. I tacked up, got on, walked around for a few minutes, trotted nicely and then it happened. My world shattered. I had never been so confused. Bryce wouldn't canter. He replaced that gait with flinging, head tossing, bucking, kicking out, swapping (only his hind). My first thought was maybe he was anticipating his lead changes. I mean they weren't his favorite things to do and he usually gave a little kick out during his swap. I tried to stay in a 10m circle. I tried getting after him (he is a pony, they get sassy!). No one could figure out what was wrong.
The next few weeks only got worse and worse....until Bryce was unable to be ridden. We could walk. Nothing more. At that point I decided to call the vet. He flexed barely positive on his right stifle. So, she suggested UlcerGuard for one month. After two weeks off, we could kind of trot. I was excited thinking that we just needed the last two weeks of the treatment and life will be back to normal. Wrong again! Zero improvement. Next step- farrier. Hoof test resulted in no abscess. Sadly, I was hoping for one about to blow.
I had no idea where to go from there.
